Ricoh SP 213w: Setup, Drivers, Ink and Common Problems

Mono laser Released 2014 Discontinued Around $99 new

A tiny 22 ppm personal laser aimed at home offices in India, the UK and Australia, the SP 213w was Ricoh's cheapest way onto a network. There is no screen at all, so every status message is read from three LEDs and the Smart Organizing Monitor utility on the PC. The 50-sheet tray is the real limit here — it is fine for a few pages a day and frustrating for anything more, and the all-in-one cartridge means print-quality faults are usually solved by replacing one part.

Best for: Home offices printing a few pages a day on a tight budget

Setting up the Ricoh SP 213w

Install Smart Organizing Monitor from the bundled disc or the Ricoh download page first, connect by USB, then use the utility's Wi-Fi Configuration tab to push your SSID and passphrase to the printer. Once the wireless LED is solid you can remove the USB cable and add the printer again over the network. The printer is 2.4 GHz only, so split a dual-band router's bands or temporarily disable the 5 GHz radio if the SSID is not found.

  1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
  2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
  3. Install the setup app. Use Ricoh's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
  4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
  5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.

Ink, toner and supplies

The Ricoh SP 213w uses the following consumables. Match the number exactly when you buy: the same printer family often uses several different cartridge numbers by region.

  • Ricoh SP 200LE starter toner (1,000 pages)
  • Ricoh SP 200 all-in-one cartridge (2,600 pages)

High-yield (XL) versions almost always cost less per page if you print regularly. On third-party ink and toner, read our honest assessment first, and note that some manufacturers push firmware that rejects non-original chips.
