Xerox WorkCentre 6605: Setup, Drivers, Ink and Common Problems

Colour laser Released 2013 Discontinued Around $899 new

The WorkCentre 6605 was Xerox's mainstream small-office colour MFP before the VersaLink era and remains common in second-hand fleets. It prints 36 ppm colour, faxes and scans through a reversing ADF. The single imaging unit covers all four colours, so a streak or fade in one colour usually means the whole unit is due; and the 092-670 ATC fault is frequent on units past 100,000 pages.

Best for: Small offices still running a 2013-era colour MFP on cheap consumables

Setting up the Xerox WorkCentre 6605

Windows 11 works with the Xerox Global Print Driver; use the Print and Scan Experience app or WSD scanning since the original scan utility is unsupported. Scan-to-email, SMB and fax settings are in CentreWare Internet Services at the printer's IP. Apply the last firmware to fix SMB scanning with modern servers.

  1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the toner cartridge and drum unit, and load paper in the tray.
  2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
  3. Install the setup app. Use Xerox's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
  4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
  5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.

Ink, toner and supplies

The Xerox WorkCentre 6605 uses the following consumables. Match the number exactly when you buy: the same printer family often uses several different cartridge numbers by region.

  • 106R02228 high-capacity black toner (8,000 pages)
  • 106R02225 / 106R02226 / 106R02227 high-capacity cyan / magenta / yellow toner (6,000 pages each)
  • 108R01121 imaging unit (60,000 pages)
  • 108R01124 waste cartridge

High-yield (XL) versions almost always cost less per page if you print regularly. On third-party ink and toner, read our honest assessment first, and note that some manufacturers push firmware that rejects non-original chips.
