Pantum Printer Support: Drivers, Apps, Setup and Toner (Independent Guide)

Pantum is the challenger brand in mono laser printing. Its machines are simple, inexpensive and sold largely online, and the argument for buying one is almost entirely about running cost: cartridges cost a fraction of the equivalent from HP, Brother or Canon. That has won it real ground with home offices and students in all four of our markets.

The trade-offs are just as clear. There is no substantial local service network, the mobile apps are confusingly named differently on each platform, and the feature set is deliberately minimal. This page is an independent map of Pantum support: where downloads live, which app you need, how setup works, and what actually goes wrong.

A note on the company name

The company behind Pantum rebranded from Ninestar to Pantum Technology in April 2026. The printer brand itself has always been Pantum, so nothing changes on your hardware or in the software. It matters only in that older distributor paperwork, press coverage and some warranty documents carry the previous name, and people occasionally conclude they are dealing with a different company. They are not.

Drivers

Pantum supplies Windows and macOS drivers per model from the download hub, generally as a single installer that adds the print queue and, on multifunction models, the scan driver. Linux packages are available for several models, which is unusual at this price point and worth knowing. See our Pantum driver page.

The mobile apps, which have different names

This trips up more people than any technical fault. On Android the app is called Pantum Mobile Print & Scan. On iOS it is called simply PANTUM. They perform the same functions: wireless setup, printing, scanning from multifunction models and device status. Searching the Android name in the Apple App Store returns nothing, which is why people conclude there is no iOS app. Our Pantum app page covers both.

Standards-based printing

Many Pantum models support AirPrint and Mopria, which means an iPhone or Android phone can print without any Pantum app at all. For everyday printing this is the simplest route; the app is worth installing mainly for setup and for scanning to the phone.

Setting up a Pantum printer

1. Remove all packing material and the protective strip from the toner cartridge, rock the cartridge gently side to side to distribute toner, then seat it until it clicks.
2. Load paper with the tray guides against the stack, then power on and let the machine warm up.
3. Check your Wi-Fi band before doing anything else. Pantum machines are 2.4 GHz only. If your router broadcasts one merged name for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, the printer will not see your network.
4. Split the bands temporarily in your router app, or create a 2.4 GHz guest network for setup. You can merge them again afterwards once the printer has joined.
5. Install the app for your platform and follow its setup flow, which connects your phone to the printer's temporary network, passes your credentials, and then reconnects your phone to your normal network.
6. Alternatively, connect by USB once and configure wireless through the desktop driver installer, which is often quicker on Windows.
7. Print the network configuration page from the panel, note the IP address, and reserve it in your router so the printer does not move.

Toner, running costs and the honest case for Pantum

The whole argument for the brand is cost per page. Genuine PA and TL series cartridges cost a fraction of the equivalent from a mainstream brand, and compatibles are cheaper again. For a household or home office printing a few hundred mono pages a month, the three-year difference is substantial and typically dwarfs any difference in purchase price.

The counter-argument is service. There is no meaningful local repair network in our markets, so a machine that fails outside its return window is usually replaced rather than repaired. Since the machines are inexpensive, that maths often still works, but it is a different ownership model from a Brother or Kyocera laser that expects to be serviced.

Our practical guidance is to buy from a retailer with a good returns process, keep the packaging for the return window, and treat the machine as a low-cost consumable appliance. For a broader look at print economics, see reducing printing costs.

What you give up at this price

It is worth being explicit about the trade-offs, because a Pantum is not simply a cheaper version of a Brother or an HP. Several things are genuinely absent or weaker.

• Paper handling. Trays are smaller and lighter, and heavy card or unusual media is not the strength here. If you print on anything other than plain paper regularly, look elsewhere.
• Duty cycle. These engines are specified for modest monthly volumes. A machine asked to do a thousand pages a month will wear noticeably faster than a business laser built for it.
• Scanner quality on multifunction models. The scanners are adequate for documents and unremarkable for anything else. If image quality matters, a dedicated scanner is a better investment than a better printer.
• Software polish. The apps work but are less refined than the mainstream equivalents, and the app naming inconsistency between platforms is a symptom of that.
• Service network. There is effectively none in our markets, so the machine is replaced rather than repaired.

None of that makes a Pantum a bad purchase. It makes it a specific one: an inexpensive appliance for straightforward mono printing where cartridge cost is the dominant concern. Judged against that, it does the job well.

Firmware, warranty and support channels

Firmware updates come from the download hub or through the desktop utility. Apply them when a specific problem is addressed rather than routinely, as with any smaller-brand device where a failed update is harder to recover from.

Warranty is typically one year and is handled through the regional site or, in practice, through the retailer. Because most Pantum sales are online, the retailer's returns process is usually faster than any manufacturer route, and in the UK and Australia your statutory rights against the seller are the stronger claim in the first year.
