Is the Canon PIXMA GM2070 right for you?

The GM2070 is Canon's answer to the mono laser: a black-only MegaTank with pigment ink, automatic duplex and Ethernet that prints thousands of text pages from one bottle at a fraction of toner cost. It is aimed at Indian offices, schools and coaching institutes that print forms and notes all day. Unusually, a colour FINE cartridge can be dropped in for occasional colour, though that is a convenience rather than a photo feature.

Setting up the Canon PIXMA GM2070

Fill the black tank, install the printhead, and let the charge complete before connecting Ethernet or a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network from the LCD. Install the GM2070 driver from in.canon and set duplex on by default. Print a nozzle check weekly during long idle periods, because pigment ink dries faster than dye.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink bottles (fill each tank to the upper line), and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use Canon's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.

The Canon PIXMA GM2070 uses the following consumables. Match the number exactly when you buy: the same printer family often uses several different cartridge numbers by region.

• GI-70 Black pigment bottle (GI-20 on the US GM2020)
• Optional CL-71 / CL-41 colour cartridge
• MC-G01 maintenance cartridge
