Is the HP DeskJet 2855e right for you?

The DeskJet 2855e is the 2024 refresh of HP's cheapest HP+ all-in-one and is essentially the 2755e with newer firmware and a fresh Instant Ink offer. Hardware has not moved on, so buyers get the same slow engine and 60-sheet input, but the updated Wi-Fi firmware has been more stable on modern routers. The HP+ rules still apply: genuine HP 67 ink only, internet connection required, and cartridge firmware updates arrive automatically.

Setting up the HP DeskJet 2855e

Setup is HP Smart only and needs an HP account; have your Wi-Fi password ready because the app will push it to the printer over Bluetooth. If the app stalls at the HP+ step, move the phone closer and temporarily disable VPN or private DNS. Once connected, let the printer finish its first firmware update before printing the alignment page.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
