The DeskJet 2955 is one of HP's newest entry-level all-in-ones and, when this page was written, one of the best-selling printers on Amazon US. It belongs to the DeskJet 2900 generation that follows the DeskJet 2855e, with close relatives sold as the DeskJet 2910, 2920 and 2922 in the UK, Europe and Australia and the DeskJet 2931 in India. It suits households that print a few pages a week: homework, forms and return labels. HP had published few detailed specs for this exact SKU at the time of writing, so speed and tray figures are left blank here. The missing "e" in the name matters, because on HP models that suffix usually marks HP+ and an Instant Ink trial, so check the box before assuming either.

Setting up the HP DeskJet 2955

Expect setup to run through the HP Smart app, which asks you to sign in to an HP account and then joins the printer to Wi-Fi from your phone. Have your network password ready and keep the phone close to the printer. Let the printer install any firmware update it offers before you print the alignment page. Before buying spare ink, check the cartridge number printed inside the access door or on the setup sheet, because it may not match the HP 67 cartridges used by the older DeskJet 2855e.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
