Is the HP ENVY 6555e right for you?

The ENVY 6555e is the 2024 update of the ADF-equipped ENVY 6455e, sold alongside it in many stores while older stock clears. The hardware is a carry-over, so the 35-sheet feeder, duplex printing and HP 67 cartridges are unchanged and the differences sit in firmware and the shorter three-month Instant Ink trial. If you are comparing the two, buy on price; advice for one applies to the other.

Setting up the HP ENVY 6555e

HP Smart is mandatory for setup and HP+ enrolment, and the app is also the only way to see ink levels. Load the ADF face-up and use the app's Scan tile to create multi-page PDFs. If the printer shows as offline in Windows while the app can see it, remove and re-add it using the IP address shown in the app's printer information page.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
