Is the HP ENVY 6055e right for you?

The ENVY 6055e is the HP+ edition of the 6055 and one of the most common printers in North American homes because it is discounted so often. It prints duplex automatically, scans well on its flatbed and is nearly silent, but it has no screen and no ADF. The HP+ contract is the thing to understand before buying: once activated it only accepts Original HP 67 cartridges and must stay online, and the bundled Instant Ink months convert to a paid plan unless cancelled.

Setting up the HP ENVY 6055e

Set it up through HP Smart with an HP account and let it complete the HP+ enrolment and first firmware update. Both Wi-Fi bands are supported; if the app cannot find the printer, hold the Wireless button until the light blinks purple to re-enter setup mode. The printer reports ink levels only through the app, so keep it installed on at least one device.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
