Is the HP ENVY 6120e right for you?

The ENVY 6120e is HP's 2024 replacement for the 6055e and 6020e, keeping the screenless duplex design while updating the Wi-Fi firmware and the Instant Ink bundle. It behaves exactly like its predecessor from the user's point of view, which is good news for anyone upgrading a tired 6055e. The HP+ programme is unchanged, so plan on genuine HP 67 or 305 cartridges and a permanent internet connection.

Setting up the HP ENVY 6120e

Use HP Smart and accept the first firmware update before printing the alignment page; the 2024 firmware fixed several reconnect problems seen on the earlier 6000 series. Both Wi-Fi bands are supported, and the printer rejoins automatically after router restarts. Blink codes are the only on-device feedback, so open the app whenever the status light turns amber.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
