Is the HP ENVY Pro 6455 right for you?

The ENVY Pro 6455 was the 2020 original that the ENVY 6455e later replaced, and it matters because it predates HP+: it will accept remanufactured HP 67 cartridges after a warning and never needs to phone home. It has the same 35-sheet feeder, duplex engine and screenless design as its successor. The pickup roller on the main tray tends to polish smooth after a few thousand pages, leading to the printer reporting out of paper when the tray is full.

Setting up the HP ENVY Pro 6455

HP Smart with Bluetooth on is the quickest route onto Wi-Fi; both bands are supported. If the printer claims the tray is empty, remove the paper, wipe the grey roller visible at the back of the tray with a damp cloth, and reload a smaller stack. Firmware updates are optional on this model and can be declined in the app if you rely on third-party ink.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
