Rollo and MUNBYN Label Printer Setup: Wi-Fi, Mac, Windows and 4x6 Shipping Labels

To set up a Rollo or MUNBYN label printer, install the driver from the maker's own site before plugging it in (the Rollo Wireless needs no driver), load 4 x 6 inch direct thermal labels, and run automatic label detection by holding the feed button until it beeps once. Then set the paper size to 4 x 6 in (100 x 150 mm) and print shipping labels at 100% scale.

What you need before you start

Both brands make direct thermal printers. The printhead heats specially coated label stock, so there's no ink or toner to buy. It also means you need direct thermal labels, not the thermal transfer kind that needs a ribbon. Nearly all 4 x 6 shipping labels sold to home sellers are direct thermal, but check the listing before you buy in bulk.

You'll also want a free USB port on the computer itself (not a hub), and for wireless models, your Wi-Fi network name and password. Rollo lists ChromeOS among the systems its Wireless model works with; for a USB model on a Chromebook, check the maker's current instructions before you rely on it. How do I install the Rollo driver on Windows 11 and macOS?

Rollo USB on Windows 11

1. Go to rollo.com/driver and download the Windows driver. It comes inside a zip file.
2. Right-click the zip file, choose Extract All, and run the installer from the extracted folder. Installers launched from inside a zip file often fail partway through.
3. Connect the Rollo by USB directly to the computer and switch it on.
4. Open Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners and confirm the Rollo is listed.

Rollo USB on a Mac

1. Download the Mac driver from the same Rollo page and open the installer.
2. If macOS says it can't open the installer, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and look for an Open Anyway button.
3. Connect the printer by USB, open System Settings › Printers & Scanners, and click Add Printer, Scanner or Fax.
4. Select the Rollo and make sure the Use menu shows the Rollo driver rather than a generic one. A generic driver is the usual reason a Mac prints labels at the wrong size.

Rollo Wireless: no driver needed

Rollo says the Wireless model doesn't need a driver. Once it's on your Wi-Fi (covered below), a Windows 11 PC finds it under Printers & scanners › Add device, listed as Rollo X1040, and a Mac finds it with the add button in Printers & Scanners. If Windows doesn't list it, choose Add manually and add it by IP address.

How do I set up a MUNBYN printer on Windows 11 and Mac?

MUNBYN sells several similar models, and the ITPP941 alone comes in USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi versions. The label on the underside of the printer gives the exact model, and the driver you download needs to match it.

1. Open the MUNBYN Help Center and find the downloads section for drivers. Pick your exact model and operating system.
2. On Windows, the driver comes in a zip file. Extract it, right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator, then connect the USB cable and power on when the installer asks. Check that the printer appears in Printers & scanners.
3. On a Mac, open the downloaded disk image, run the installer, then add the printer in System Settings › Printers & Scanners, choosing the MUNBYN driver in the Use menu.
4. For Bluetooth models and phone printing, install the MUNBYN Print app and connect from inside the app, which is how MUNBYN's portable printers are normally set up.

Loading labels and running automatic label detection

Thermal printers find the gap between labels with a sensor. Until the printer has learned your labels, it may feed several blanks or print one label across two. Run detection the first time, and again whenever you change label size or brand.

Rollo

1. Feed the labels in from the back. The heat-sensitive side must face the printhead; a quick scratch with a fingernail shows which side darkens.
2. Slide the label guides in until they just touch the edges of the label.
3. The printer normally grabs the label and learns it by itself. If it doesn't, or labels skip, press and hold the top button until it beeps once, then let go. The Rollo moves the label back and forth to measure the gap, then stops at the tear-off point with a green light.

On the USB model, holding the button until you hear two short beeps runs a self-test instead, which is a handy way to check the printhead without a computer.

MUNBYN

1. Load at least four labels in a row, coated side facing the printhead, and close the cover. Most models try to feed and detect the label automatically.
2. If that doesn't happen, press and hold the Feed button until you hear one beep, then release it. The printer runs the labels back and forth and stops when calibration is done.

MUNBYN says its auto-sensing handles label widths from about 1.57 to 4.3 inches (40 to 110 mm), so the same printer can handle small product labels as well as 4 x 6 shipping labels.

Fanfold or roll labels?

• Fanfold stacks sit flat behind the printer and feed through the rear slot. You don't need a holder, the labels don't curl, and a stack of 500 takes up little room.
• Rolls need a holder. Check that the roll's core size fits your holder before you order, because large industrial rolls may not. Rolls suit desks with no space behind the printer.

Whichever you use, keep the stack or roll square to the slot. Labels pulled in at an angle drift sideways and cause misprints that look like a calibration fault.

How do I set the paper size to 4 x 6 inches?

The label size has to match in the driver and in whatever you print from. Set the driver once and it becomes the default for every program.

Windows 11

1. Open Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners and select the Rollo or MUNBYN.
2. Click Printing preferences. Depending on the driver, the size is on the first tab or under Advanced or Page Setup.
3. Choose 4 x 6 or 100 x 150 mm. If your size isn't listed, create a custom size with the exact width and height of your labels.
4. Click Apply, then OK.

macOS

1. Open the label in Preview or your browser and press Command-P.
2. In Paper Size, choose 4 x 6 or 100 x 150 mm. If neither is there, choose Manage Custom Sizes, click the plus button, and enter 4 by 6 inches with all margins set to zero.
3. Set Scale to 100%, then save the settings as a Preset so you don't have to repeat them each time.

Printing shipping labels from ShipStation, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, Pirate Ship and Amazon

Every major platform can produce a 4 x 6 label, but many default to a letter-size sheet with the label in one corner. Change the platform's label format first, then print the PDF at actual size. These menus move around, so treat the table as a guide to where to start looking.

Then print the PDF with these settings:

1. Open the PDF in Chrome, Edge or Adobe Acrobat Reader and choose Print, with the Rollo or MUNBYN as the printer.
2. Set the paper size to 4 x 6 (in Chrome and Edge it's under More settings).
3. Set scaling to 100%. Chrome calls this Default; Acrobat Reader calls it Actual size. Avoid any fit-to-page option.
4. Print one label and check that the barcode edges aren't clipped before printing the rest of the batch.

If the PDF itself shows a full letter page with a small label on it, no printer setting will fix it properly. Go back and change the platform's label format, because a shrunken carrier barcode may not scan.

How do I connect a Rollo Wireless or MUNBYN Wi-Fi model to Wi-Fi?

Rollo Wireless

1. Install the Rollo app on your phone; rollo.com/app links to the right store listing.
2. Follow the app's setup steps. The printer's Wi-Fi button does different things depending on how long you hold it, including a WPS mode and an access-point mode used during setup, so follow the app's prompts rather than guessing.
3. Once it's connected, add the printer on each computer as described above. Any computer or phone on the same network can then print to it.

MUNBYN Wi-Fi models

MUNBYN's Wi-Fi setup varies by model. Some are set up through the MUNBYN Print app, and the Mac driver for the ITPP941 Wi-Fi version includes a Wi-Fi Configuration option where you enter the network name and password. The quick-start card in the box names the method for your model.

Tips for any wireless label printer

• Use your main network, not a guest network, which usually stops devices from seeing each other.

Print a test label, then fix anything odd

Before your first real order, print one label from a PDF you already have and scan the barcode with your phone's camera or a shipping app. If labels come out blank, print tiny in one corner, spill across two labels or skip, the fix is almost always the roll orientation, calibration or page size, and our Rollo and MUNBYN not printing guide works through each one.
