Is the HP DeskJet 2722 right for you?

The DeskJet 2722 is the non-HP+ version of the 2700 series, so it will happily run third-party HP 67 cartridges and never needs an HP account to keep printing. It is one of the few budget DeskJets with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for easier phone setup. Owners mostly complain that the tiny 60-sheet tray and slow engine make it frustrating for anything beyond light use, and that the tri-colour cartridge must be replaced even if only one colour runs out.

Setting up the HP DeskJet 2722

Install HP Smart first and keep Bluetooth on; the app uses Bluetooth LE to discover the printer and hand over Wi-Fi credentials. The 2722 supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but the 2.4 GHz band is more reliable at distance. A blinking Wireless light means it has lost the network; hold the Wireless button for three seconds to restore setup mode.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
