Is the HP DeskJet 3772 right for you?

The DeskJet 3772 is the same compact scroll-scanner printer as the 3755 sold under a different model number and colour, usually through club stores. Everything about its behaviour, cartridges and quirks is shared with the 3755. Because it is so small, the printhead sits close to the paper path and dust builds up quickly, so faded or streaky pages usually respond to the cartridge cleaning routine in HP Smart rather than a new cartridge.

Setting up the HP DeskJet 3772

Pair it with HP Smart on the 2.4 GHz band; many owners find it easier to start with a USB cable on a laptop and then add Wi-Fi from the HP Smart printer settings. The printer sleeps aggressively and can take a few seconds to wake, which some routers interpret as the device leaving the network, so reserving its IP address in the router helps. Scan one sheet at a time through the rear slot.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
