HP ENVY 6055: Setup, Drivers, Ink and Common Problems

Is the HP ENVY 6055 right for you?

The ENVY 6055 dropped the touchscreen in favour of a row of status lights and leans entirely on the HP Smart app, which makes it feel modern from a phone but baffling if you expect on-printer menus. It is a solid duplex family printer that uses HP 67 ink and, unlike the later e-models, is not tied to HP+. The lack of a display means error states are communicated through blinking light patterns that owners constantly look up.

Setting up the HP ENVY 6055

Install HP Smart and enable Bluetooth; the app walks the printer onto your Wi-Fi, and the 6055 will use 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. A purple blinking light means it is in setup mode; a blinking blue light means it is searching for the router. If the light goes amber, open the app to read the actual error rather than guessing from the blink code.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
