Is the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 right for you?

The OfficeJet Pro 9015 is the retail sibling of the 9010 and was the best-selling small-office inkjet in North America for a couple of years. It prints fast, scans both sides in one pass and is comfortable with a few hundred pages a month on HP 962XL cartridges. The printhead is fixed and the cause of nearly all serious failures, usually surfacing as a 0x6100004a or 0x61011bed code after two to four years, so the best protection is to keep it powered and printing regularly.

Setting up the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015

HP Smart handles setup on either Wi-Fi band, and Ethernet is there for offices. When you first see a 0x6100004a error, power off at the wall, open the cartridge door, remove all four cartridges, look for obstructions, then reinstall and power on; if the code returns immediately the printhead is likely failing. Disable automatic updates if you plan to use compatible cartridges.

1. Unbox and prepare. Remove every piece of shipping tape and packing material, install the ink cartridges, and load paper in the tray.
2. Join your Wi-Fi. Keep the printer close to the router for setup. Most printers only connect to the 2.4GHz band, so if your router broadcasts one merged network name you may need to split the bands temporarily. See our Wi-Fi guide if it will not join.
3. Install the setup app. Use HP's official app rather than a driver you found on a search result — third-party driver sites are the most common source of printer malware.
4. Add the printer. On Windows 11: Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners › Add device. On macOS: System Settings › Printers & Scanners › Add Printer.
5. Print a test page and run a scan if this is an all-in-one, so you find any problem now rather than when you are in a hurry.
