The Epson Universal Print Driver lets one driver serve many Epson business printers, which keeps print servers tidy and simplifies deployment. It is published in a PCL6 version for mixed environments and an ESC/P-R version for Epson's own page description language, which usually performs better on Epson hardware. Epson does not host it on a dedicated page, so administrators fetch it from any supported business model's support page, such as a WorkForce Pro. Like all universal drivers it exposes a common feature set rather than every model-specific option.
Version and licence: Windows only. Epson does not give the universal driver its own landing page, so it is downloaded from a business model's support page. It comes in PCL6 and ESC/P-R variants. There is no macOS equivalent.

How to install it
Step 1
Open the support page for a supported Epson business model, such as the WorkForce Pro WF-6090.
Step 2
Choose Windows and your version, then download the Universal Print Driver in the PCL6 or ESC/P-R variant.
Step 3
Extract the package to a local folder and run the setup application as an administrator.
Step 4
Choose whether to search the network for printers or enter an IP address directly.
Step 5
Select the printers to add and let the installer create the queues.
Step 6
Open Printer Properties, Device Settings and confirm the installed trays and duplex unit match the hardware.
Step 7
Set defaults in Printing Preferences, particularly duplex and greyscale, then print a test page.
Which printers it supports
Epson business inkjets, principally the WorkForce Pro range and related business models. Consumer printers such as Expression and most EcoTank models should use the model-specific driver.
When Epson Universal Print Driver will not work
Epson does not publish one. Open any supported business model's support page, such as the WF-6090, and download it from the drivers list there.
Cross-subnet discovery is usually blocked. Enter the printer's IP address manually to create a standard TCP/IP port, which works regardless of network segmentation.
Open Printer Properties, Device Settings and set the installed options by hand. Automatic detection needs SNMP, which many networks block.
Try the other variant. ESC/P-R usually renders better on Epson hardware, while PCL6 is more predictable in mixed-brand fleets. Model-specific colour and media options are only available in the model driver.
Correct. On macOS, use the model-specific driver from the Epson support page, or add the printer with AirPrint, which needs no driver at all for basic printing.

Frequently asked questions
PCL6 or ESC/P-R?
ESC/P-R is Epson's own language and often gives better results on Epson devices. PCL6 is the safer choice in a mixed fleet with standard workflows.
Will it work with my home EcoTank?
It targets business models. A home printer is better served by its own driver, which exposes photo and media options the universal driver omits.
Is there a macOS build?
No. macOS uses per-model drivers or AirPrint.
